TEAM Academy had the great pleasure of working with Parnell Baths and George FM to deliver the infamous "Pool Party" in February 2011. The TEAM Academy athletes volunteered their time as the security service for the party to ensure safe keeping of the event so that members of the public could enjoy themselves within a safe environment. Facility manager James Robertson comments on the TA Athletes "they were a great bunch of young lads who did an awesome job with ensuring the safety of the public with enthusiastic attitudes".

A new sports academy in Mt Wellington is churning out better citizens as well as better athletes.
Team Academy was set up by brothers Will, 31, and Vita, 26, Tu'ipulotu last year to give athletes another avenue of training. The brothers are careful to take a holistic approach to their coaching and enforce a code of conduct which includes no alcohol, respecting everyone and being a community leader.

Rugby union player Howard Sililoto, 19, says the academy changed his life and helped him get into the Auckland Rugby Academy. "Before this we weren't doing much. Now training is helping us get to the next level," the Glen Innes teen says.

"It's making us better players and better people."

Wesley College student Siulong Fotofilia, 17, is another success story, although Will is quick to point out that it's not the academy but the hard work of the boys that makes them stand out. Siulong has already made it into the Counties Manukau Rugby Academy. While the academy is currently dominated by rugby players, it's open to all sports and athletes. Will, a personal trainer who played American Football for the Bakersfield Blitz in California, believes mentoring is the biggest part of their coaching. "You have to be a beast in life as well as on the field," he says. Vita says they are trying to bridge the gap between school and club sport by encouraging athletes between the ages of 17 and 25 to work towards the top level of their sport. The academy has up to 20 players who attend the training sessions every Monday and Wednesday evening. The brothers hope to expand and establish a female squad. Will and Vita expect good morals and commitment from the athletes in their academy. "The main thing is, if they're here, they're here to do the training," says Will. It costs $30 a week to be part of the academy. The brothers help find sponsorship for those that can't afford it but the boys pay part of the fee to encourage them to work hard. "You have to pay for the best to become the best," Will says. "If they can't pay they help us clean up after".  -      East And Bays Courier

2009 Auckland Expo

Picture
TEAM Academy was lucky enough to be invited to the very first Pacific Expo on December 09 2009. The Pacific Expo was awesome it had a whole bunch of up and coming businesses which was really good for us. They also had alot of influential people like Hon Bill English, Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, Michael Jones, Inga Tuigamala and many more. They had a panel of Politicians which discussed  how the Super City will assist small and up coming businesses and many other issues that may arise like funding and where all the funding may go due to the new Super City set up. Does those areas that worked very hard to produce a huge amount of funding lose out due to new set up?.

We also got to listen to the Churches insight into the matter and how they play a massive part in small businesses and helping people get employment. It was very educational and awesome to see how the different churches handle their money and structure.Overall the experience was awesome and very educational, It is great to see that the Government and Churches are doing their best in trying to help us . So a few things I came away with from the Expo was expand your knowledge, make sure you vote for the right person and always ask for help.
